Top 10 of 2012

During the last weekend of 2012 I surprised the kids with a trip to the Science Museum.  Bryson was working and the kid band Spaghetti Eddie was playing a "New Years Eve" concert at the Science Museum.  I had always wanted to take the kids to see them and thought this would be the perfect opportunity!
We got there with plenty of time to play a little bit before the big concert!  First up was the gymnastics area!  That is always one of their favorites!
Then they did some problem solving in the little kid area

Metro Family Magazine had a cute little craft area set up where the kids could make party hats.  They had fun doing that.  Then it was concert time.  I didn't get any good pictures but we all loved it.  The noise level was a little too loud for Brody so we didn't stay the entire time, but Meg stood up the entire time right in front of the stage!  I think she might be a band groupie later in life!

The rest of the weekend we were pretty lazy!  Meg got in some early morning snuggle time with Rosco!

One afternoon we decided to head out to our land to check on the deer feeder and deer cameras!  I hadn't been out there in a really long time so it was fun to see how different it looked in the winter and to dream about where we will put our house and what life will be like out on the "farm".

Knowing how much fun these two will have out there makes me extremely anxious to get started on our house!

We all tried out the deer stand.  It seems really high when you are up in it!  I don't typically do this but I thought it would be fun to do a Top 10 Best Things that Happened in 2012 List.  So here goes......

  1. Some of our best friends bringing their adopted baby girl home on the same day as Meg's birthday.  So special that they will always share that day!  And that we got to be there when they brought her home late that night!

2. Brody's Allergy Testing!  Kind of strange that this would be one of the best things of 2012 but honestly it was.  Finding out what all he was allergic to and getting him on medicine has been Life Changing!  Not only has cutting out soy and sesame (to the best of our ability without being crazy) done wonders for his poor little tummy but for the first time in 6 years he started consistenly sleeping throught the night every single night.  Amazing!!!

3. Bryson getting to go to Haiti on a mission trip.  That was truely life changing for him and really for both of us.  Even though I didn't get to experience first hand, hearing his stories have really changed how we look at life.  It made our desire to adopt even stronger.  And listening to him share his story in front of our church family a few weeks later was one of the best things I have ever seen him do!

4. While Bryson was in Haiti we went to San Antonio for Spring Break.  It was such a wonderful getaway and the resort we stayed at was one my most favorite ever.  Watching the kids feed the dolphins at Sea World was a favorite memory for sure!

5. Meg getting her tonsils removed.  Once again, you wouldn't think a surgery would make the best list but the surgery was the best thing for her.  She no longer snores or has sleep apnea.  She no longer gets strep throat.  She sleeps better and feels better.  That horrible week that followed the surgery as been worth it this winter when there have been a number of times when I know that she if she still had those tonsils in that she would've been sick.  And thankfully so far she hasn't had a single bit of sickness since then!

6. My mom retiring was absolutely one of our "tops" of last year!  She has worked so hard all of the years and we are thrilled she has a little more free time now!  We had a fun Hawaiian party for her to celebrate!  It was great to see so many old friends from Wynnewood!

7. Driving to Florida to see Nana and Papa's new house for the first time was certainly an adventure and full of memories. I realized the kids are awesome car riders and that I can keep up with them on a vacation even when I have pneumonia!  There is something about watching your kids play in the sand and the waves at the beach that is such a beautiful sight to see.  I also loved see how Brody was obsessed with snorkeling.  I can't wait to go back!

8. DISNEY WORLD!!!!  Probably my most favorite thing of the entire year!  I absolutely loved Disney World and dream almost every day of going back.  So many wonderful memories of our time there.  Truely magical!  And getting to share it with our friends made it even better!

9. Trying new things!!!  This year I made it a point to try things that get me out of my comfort zone.  Like flying and public speaking!  This last fall I was asked to help teach a Wednesday night Ladies Class at our church.  It helped me conquer my fear of public speaking and I realized I actually enjoyed it.  Plus I learned so much and grew spiritually as a result.  Bryson got in on the action too and started leading singing at church and is currently teaching a Sunday morning Bible class. Thankful to go to a church where we have opportunities like that!  I also took up running and completed my first half-marathon.  I was thrilled to have actually stuck with the training plan and was able to run the entire 13.1 miles!  It was extremely miserable but I am sure it won't be my last one!

10. Our White Christmas!  A White Christmas is just about as magical as Disney World.  And the fact that my kids have experienced their 2nd White Christmas is just amazing!

2012 was a wonderful year!  We feel very blessed and thankful for all God has done for us!
