School Days

Here lately Brody and Meg both love school and I mean LOVE it! This makes me oh so very happy and I hope that always love school. Meg goes to Mother's Day Out once a week at First Baptist Church in Moore. She has the two sweetest teachers who insist I have the cutest, most adorable, fun, daughter ever. Hey, who can argue with that??? I am sure they say the same thing to every mom! They are very structured and her day includes storytime, Bible time, craft time, snack time, and Kid Fit which includes time in their indoor bounce house. Almost every week she falls asleep at the table while eating lunch. This cracks me up because she never does stuff like that at home and we wear her out here too! She loves carrying her little lunch bag in. She thinks she is so big and can do most everything All By Herself!
They had holiday pictures last week and so she got all dressed up and we had to snap a few of our own pictures. She is all about cheesing it up these days and runs to the camera after each snap and says, "See".
Does she not look so big???
And my little guy who I thought would never go to school without crying has become an awesome little student. His teacher has put a fire for learning in him that I hope never burns out. Brody has never been the kind of kid that enjoyed structured play or learning. He always liked doing his own thing so it has been so much fun to see his excitement over all of the different things Mrs. Kirk is teaching him. Each week they learn a rhyme or two and then can recite them at the end of the week and get their "club card". He has been so good at learning these on his own and reciting them. He also loves trying to make up his own words that rhyme. But his favorite thing is compound words. He connects words and really trys to make correct compound words. He throws in some crazy ones every once in a while too, but I am often very surprised at how many he can create. He has also enjoyed writing his letters more and loves to draw. His latest favorite things to draw are spider webs, turkeys, and space robot.
We recently had our first Family Project assignment. It was to decorate a picture of a Turkey. We had a week to complete it but Brody insisted on completing it the first night and sending it back the next day. He thought of the ideas on his own and did most everything by himself. He was so proud of it and we were so proud of him. We had a chance to look at some of the other turkeys yesterday at school. They will each get an award. I'm thinking his may be awarded "Most Colorful". I thought of awards for a few, "Mom did my turkey" came to mind on a few! Ha!
One funny thing about school is the funny things that Brody picks up on that other kids say. I guess one of the things kids his age say to each other is "I'm not going to be your best buddy no more.". Brody has told me multiple times when other kids say that to him or when they say they are going to be his best buddy. It doesn't seem to bother him when someone says it to him. I am sure this is just the first of many things that I have to tell Brody that just because other kids say it doesn't mean he can say it!
