Soccer Saturdays

So the Varner Family has joined the world of youth sports! Brody decided he wanted to play soccer this season and so we signed him up to be on a team with his BFF Kennedy! They practice on Tuesday nights at the Y and so Katy and I take turns taking the big kids while the other one stays home with the babies. It works out great since my Meggie is a wild thing and sitting still to watch her brother practice is not at the top of her to-do list! The games are on Saturday mornings and so far the sports thing doesn't seem to be taking over our lives.....which is a good thing!

So Brody still has a lot to learn about soccer. The first game he didn't realize he was supposed to run when the other team had the ball. He finally got that down and was running all over the place and attempting to kick the ball. One time he really got his foot on the ball and scored a goal. Unfortunately it was in the other team's goal. The second game he did good but kept trying to body bump his team members and members of the other team and kept randomly falling down. Bryson was concerned that he was going to hurt someone so he had a little talk with him. I think that game he ended up scoring one goal for his team and one for the other team! They have a little girl on their team that we affectionantly call "Superstar". I have never seen a kid (especially a girl) play soccer at the age of 4 like this girl. Impressive to say the least. But it does prevent the other team members from getting a chance to kick because she is so good. But, you can't help that and regardless they all have so much fun out there!

Brody has had quite the fan club at his two games. Gran B has been cheering him on and so has Papa and Nana, Grandad, Mimi and Bumpy, and even the Cunninghams stop by!
