The Lowest and Highest

Sunday was our busiest day in Colorado Springs. We had a lot to squeeze in so we had to get up and at em early. Someone was having a hard time with this after insisting on staying up until we got home from the wedding!!!

Our first stop of the day was the Royal Gorge.

Do Mimi and Bumpy look like tourist or what???

We decided to do the Incline Tram first. It was during this little ride that I discovered a few things about myself. 1) I get a little bit anxious being transported in things that I have never ridden in before and 2) I'm a little claustrophobic.

Brody wanted to ride in this tram but I went ahead and veteod that after I saw how many people they crammed in that. Pure torture in my eyes!

Meg enjoyed riding a donkey

They had this amazing skycoaster that is kind of like bungee jumping but it is a swing that swings you out over the Royal Gorge. Yep, I didn't do that either!

We walked across the bridge and I hated every second of it. We finallly made it to the Oklahoma flag. I just can't describe how high the bridge is and it seemed so unsteady. I had no idea I was such a chicken until our visit here.

She how little that bridge seems and how long it is and how high it is!!! But it sure was beautiful!

Bryson and Mimi decided to do the skycoaster together. They loved it and it was so fun to watch them!

Weeeeee!

One last ride on the carousel

After our few hours at the Royal Gorge it was time to head back to Colorado Springs. After our worst dining experience of the trip we stopped at a roadside Vietnam Memorial Site. This was the plane that Bumpy was on in Vietnam so we all enjoyed getting to see it!

Proud of their Bumpy!

Brody liked the other military vehicles as well!

There was a really weird wind/dust storm that came out of nowhere while we were visiting the memorial so we didn't get to hang out and enjoy it as long as we wanted. I really thought we were going to be blown away. We had to drive through a lot of rain and lightening on our way back to the hotel!

After a very quick rest we were back in the car headed to our next big adventure. Taking the Cog Railway up Pikes Peak. This was one of the things we all just had to do while we were there. The ride was a lot of fun, slightly scary, and so informative. I love finding out how things were built and how they have kept things running all these years!

We've got our tickets ready!!!

It was over an hour trip up the mountain and then you got to spend 20 minutes up there and then over an hour trip back. One little girl got a little bit antsy, but thankfully we had extra hands to help keep her occupied! We learned on the way up there that the Gaylord Family is the current owner of the Cog Railway. Who would've thought!

We made it to the top! We were all a little surprised that there are absolutely no barriers up there. You can walk all over the place and if not careful could fall a long ways! We had to keep close tabs on the kids! It was the most breathtaking view ever. I would've loved to sit up there for hours just taking it all in!

So happy we have one picture of all of us from the trip! Can you tell it was sooo cold?

Pictures don't do it justice!

I love traveling with these two. I think it makes everything so much more fun!

We learned that America the Beautiful was written when Katherine Lee Bates was traveling up Pikes Peak in a wagon. What a fitting song for such a beautiful place!

Love these guys
And this little sweetie!

Checking everything out in the extremely overpriced gift shop
Getting ready to head back down the mountain. What a fun day it had been. We went from the lowest point in the area to the very highest. We only had one more day in Colorado left.
